Grid Integration of a Renewable Energy System: Modeling and Analysis

Shaymaa Abdallah Ezz, Robert Broadwater

Abstract

This paper presents a study to perform a steady state stability analysis with integrating a wind turbine to a standard power network, where an open source software is used to model the system. The IEEE 9 bus system is simulated using the OpenModelica software. The steady state stability analysis study of the system is performed with and without using automatic voltage regulator AVR and speed governor GOV controllers. The steady state impact of integrating a wind turbine is investigated. Moreover, the voltage dependency of the wind turbine power is examined. The significance of the analysis results provided by the OpenModelica software is discussed.
